| 15 May 2008 | Radio Interview with Katherine Fugate
|
The following is from : By Bob Andelman's blog - He interviews Katherine:
If you’re already a fan of the first year drama, you already know it’s
sort of like “Desperate Housewives” on an Army base. It’s also the most
successful series in the Lifetime cable channel’s history.
If you’re not familiar with the show, check it out. The series is based on Under the Sabers: The Unwritten Code of Army Wives, a book by Tanya Blank. It’s full of sex, lies, booze, and bitches.
And I mean that in a purely professional sense.
Hell, it’s even got a wife who isn’t a wife at all, but a dude married to a woman who is a lieutenant colonel.
All
of which is a brief introduction to my guest, Katherine Fugate, the
creator of “Army Wives,” which launches its second season on Lifetime
on June 8. Katherine is also the niece of TV legend Barbara Eden, star
of “I Dream of Jeannie” and a few million grown-up men’s fantasies.

Dee Johnson takes 'Army' leave Thiel replaces exec producer on Lifetime drama
Lifetime's hit drama "Army Wives" has been hit with yet another change of command, as exec producer-showrunner Dee Johnson has left the show.
As part of the changeover, Nick Thiel ("Burn Notice") has joined the show and been handed executive producer stripes.
"Army Wives" creator Katherine Fugate, considered the voice of "Army Wives," remains as an exec producer, along with Mark Gordon.
Production has just begun on season two of "Army Wives," which scored an 18-episode salute after posting Lifetime's best-ever series ratings in the key adults 18-49 demo last summer.
Lifetime and producer ABC Studios wouldn't comment on reasons behind Johnson's departure, which was first reported by TV Guide, but the old "creative differences" explanation made the rounds.
Johnson reps the third chief of staff to depart "Army Wives." Johnson joined as showrunner in August, replacing Melvoin. Melvoin had replaced original showrunner-exec producer Samantha Corbin-Miller last March.
Thiel's credits also include "LAX" and feature "The Associate."
"Army Wives" revolves around military spouses on an Army base struggling to make ends meet while their husbands and wives face danger elsewhere.

| 09 Mar 2008 | Exclusive Interview with Katherine Fugate
|
AUSXIP Interviewed Katherine on
January 29, 2008 - a few days after the 2008 Burbank
Convention. It's a great interview dealing with
Katherine's path from possible lawyer to successful
writer and producer. She talks about why she changed
from law to directing and writing, writing in
general, what writing for Xena meant to her and the
fan support during the WGA strike. Katherine also
talks about Army Wives and how she became involved
and what it's like to work with the whole AW team.
It's a great interview and is bound to make you
laugh. This is one of the best interviews Katherine
has given. Katherine received a standing ovation at
the recent Xena convention in Burbank for her work
on Xena, her strike captain role on behalf of the
WGA strikers and the hugely successful Army Wives.
Not to be missed! It's a 40 minute interview filled
with lots of laughter, honesty and wit.
